Chondroitin

Chondroitin (chondroitin sulphate) is a naturally occurring component of glycosaminoglycans, complex carbohydrates found in collagen-rich tissues such as cartilage, bone, connective tissue, tendons, skin and blood vessels.

It is widely used in joint-health supplements, particularly in products designed to support cartilage structure, joint flexibility and mobility. Chondroitin sulphate is thought to help maintain the water-retaining and shock-absorbing properties of cartilage, while also supporting cartilage formation and joint lubrication.

Its effects generally develop gradually, often becoming noticeable after one to two months of consistent supplementation. For this reason, chondroitin is commonly described as a symptomatic slow-acting agent for osteoarthritis, or SYSADOA.

Chondroitin sulphate is frequently combined with glucosamine and other joint-support ingredients, such as MSM and manganese, to create more comprehensive mobility formulations.
